100 days

Today is little man's 100th day. He is 100 days old. We have now 'lived' in the NICU for 100 days.

This morning we arrived to celebratory bunting and balloons, created by the very creative and thoughtful nurse Caitlin, and a card signed by the NICU staff on duty. What a lovely surprise.

We started off the day with a bath, which was enjoyed very much, and a weigh in. Little man is now 1840 grams, not far off the 2kg mark now.

On top of this milestone, we had a visit from the speech therapist, who now believes me when I say how well Jensen is doing with his morning breastfeed (as he shuts up shop when she comes to view), another visit from the physio, who says for a little man born so prematurely he is doing fabulously, with very good muscle strength and movement, and a visit from the surgeon to discuss his looming hernia operation.

Dr Holland says we need to wait until Jensen is off all oxygen, and supplements, feeding well and weighs around 4kgs. This could be a few months away. We will need to go back the Westmead children's hospital for the surgery which will be performed by Dr Holland and could perhaps be day surgery, or if not, overnight. I will post more details closer to when we know what's happening, but no it won't be on our way home from Royal North Shore.

Today Jensen received a little gift donated by the donors within The Heart Foundation. He is now the proud owner of a very soft and cuddly bear called Hugo. All the babies in the NICU received one and is meant to coincide with Mother's Day. We also had our picture taken for their newsletter...so watch out, we may just be famous!

Tomorrow we have another follow up eye check... Hoping for the all clear.

Tomorrow we also see if there is a bed available in Low Dependency...
