Sunday 8/2/15

Mummy braved the doctors' rounds by herself this morning as daddy needed a bit of a lie in. Dr Mary says that Jensen is very stable and doing well. He has had an X-ray on his lung to check the level of blood secretions. This is because of the duct that remains open in his chest. When they are in the tummy the placenta does all the work pumping blood around their body, but once the placenta is gone, the duct needs to close in order to efficiently pump the blood. Because the duct is open, blood is being pumped around everywhere...including inside his lungs. The doctors will monitor this and decide whether they will let it fix itself or help it along. This is all stock standard goings on in the life of a 23 weeker apparently.

Jensen now weighs in at a hefty 715 grams, and did another little poo overnight, and such a massive one this morning for mummy.... I needed another pair of hands to change that one! Never have I been so excited about a poo! Seems his digestive system is working nicely...

He has had a few visitors today, everyone says how big he has gotten, and how much better his skin looks. As he is doing so well with his milk, they have increased his intake from 2 ml every 2 hours, to 4 ml every 2 hours...in no time he'll be making his way through his frozen feasts and mummy will have to get pumping! And if he's anything like his mother, he'll put on weight just by looking at food....

Daddy had a turn at changing another pooey nappy this afternoon (which he would like recognition for please). Apparently it was MASSIVE and all up his back, and as it is still the first meconium poo, it's colour and consistency probably made daddy gag a little. He is very proud of himself and now that he has proven his capabilities, he won't be getting out of nappy duty once we are all home.
I was telling the nurses that I had changed a big one this morning, but used the phrase "yeah, I did a big one this morning too". Needless to say I had many strange looks of 'too much info thanks' and there was lots of laughter as I explained I had changed a poo of Jensen's earlier, and that actually it didn't run in the family.....
