So little man has been doing so well on CPAP since going back on, this morning the expectations were to be lowered onto a pressure of 5. But no.......instead they have put him onto Optiflow with a pressure of 6. This means....no more CPAP!!! The pressure of 6 on Optiflow is the same as 5 on CPAP. The little man seems to be coping well with the change, and has just been sneezing a lot. Instead of his head gear and snorkel, he just has little prongs up his nose, much softer prongs than those on CPAP. And now we get to see his little face again, and are one step closer to walking out those doors!
He let everyone know yesterday afternoon that he was not happy with the prongs on CPAP. He cried off and on for hours until mummy got him out for a cuddle to try and settle him...which worked. Once he was back on the mask he was very well behaved and proving to the nurses he was ready to come off CPAP. That little man certainly knows how to get what he wants...
Jensen had his eye check yesterday morning, and behaved well for the rest of the day (unlike last time). The ophthalmologist still can't see much, but has put him in the high risk category with the likelihood of requiring laser eye surgery. Presently the doctor is just going from his gestation and clearly doesn't understand that Jensen is not your average 23 weeker. Another test will be done next Saturday to determine what is necessary, but the doctors wanted to get Jensen on to Optiflow before this all happens. Should he need the surgery he will go back onto the ventilator (as every baby does) for the procedure, and once recovered, return to Optiflow which by then he will be used to, and not something new for him.
Feeds are up to 120ml today. This means lipids and TPN have been turned off, and he is just feeding on breast milk now. Jensen now weighs a hefty 1428grams.
Today we had a grandparent fest. All in for a photo opportunity. The days of grandma and grandad Jackson's visit are quickly and sadly coming to a close...(insert many sad faces here)
